Many sensor direction systems, like optronic directors, sights and fire control radars include rate gyroscopes to locally stabilize the line of sight with high precision.

Conventional electromechanical gyroscopes show wear, misalignment, require maintenance and calibration; logistic obsolescence make it increasingly difficult to provide spares in case of complete failure.

On the other hand, modern fibre optic rate gyroscopes solve these problems at once, enhancing the operational availability and performance of systems.

DESA employed its engineering and experience in stabilization procedures to take advantage of this fact to design Line Replaceable Units (LRU) for rate gyro units of different systems. The design minimizes intervention while providing backwards compatibility.

Upgraded systems include Goalkeeper CIWS, ELTA EL/M-2221 fire control radars, optical sights and other.
